Now Low Stomach Acid Affects Weight Gain

Low stomach acid or HCI levels are also associated with a spastic pylorus, the opening to the small intestine. Ideally, food should pass from your stomach into your small intestine, accompanied by a steady flow of bile - a vital substance secreted by the liver and stored in the gall-bladder to metabolize fats and aid in the digestive process.
A spastic pylorus, however, keeps bile from entering the small intestine, so that it backs up into the liver and gall-bladder. Meanwhile, the pancreas, which regulates the release of insulin, is also suffering from the lack of HCI and bile. Pancreatitis - inflammation of the pancreas - is one potential result. Diabetes is another. Poorly regulated blood sugar, with all the attendant problems for appetite and weight gain, is a third.
All these digestive problems take their toll on the colon, leading to constipation. The partially digested food sits in your colon far longer than it should. Remember, high-protein foods come from animals dosed with hormones and steroids and fed on pesticide-laden grains. So now you’re exposed to all the toxins the food originally contained plus to the new poisons released as this food rots within your colon.
What can you do to repair the situation? Well, reducing the amount of stress in your life is one key defense. So is allowing yourself the time to eat slowly and with pleasure, chewing your food thoroughly and savoring every bite. Embarking on a detox diet every couple of months has also been shown to help tremendously. Not drinking during meals can also help, as can taking HCI and pepsin supplements.
But an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as our grandmothers used to say. So one of the best ways you can fight the epidemic of heartburn, indigestion and acid reflux is to eat a balanced diet, avoiding the low-carb, high-protein mania. A healthy body detox ensures that you get the nutrients you need. It also helps detoxify your liver, cleanse your bile and ease the strain on your colon.
