If a family is trying to find a dentist or a lawyer, or anyone who they do not know in advance, it is now actually quite easy to do investigations using the internet. People can check the background of people before entering into a financial agreement, for example. When someone buys a service or a product they often go to a physical store in their local area, that way knowing that the person is contactable and of course real. If you buy on the iinternet however, there is a major problem that there is no real way to find out if the person is real, qualified, or even exists, assuming they are on the other side of the world.
